REFLECING THROUGHOUT THE WEEK

Assembly & Faith-Sharing Groups
Viewing Bartimaeus’ story as a pattern for discipleship, where are you on the journey -- persisting in prayer, relying on Jesus’ pity, coming when called, throwing aside an old cloak, receiving healing, following on the way?
What do you want Jesus to do for you?
In what ways are your petitions to God related to improving your discipleship?
Hospitality Ministers
Unlike the crowd’s rebuking, how does your hospitality nurture and support the cries of the Bartimaeus’ in your community?
Music Ministers
Does your manner of music making help the assembly see Jesus more clearly and follow him more readily? Does it help them embrace the cross?
Altar Ministers
In what ways is your service itself a plea for mercy and a petition to see?
Lectors
Bartimaeus’ cry for pity and help arose from first hearing Jesus. What kind of prayer has arisen within you from listening to Jesus in the Word?
Eucharistic Ministers
How is the Eucharist your song of praise (“filled with laughter and. . .rejoicing. . .like [people] dreaming;” psalm) as you recollect the great things God has done for you?

Bishop McDowell School has submitted a third year report to the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools. The faculty and administration spent many hours preparing and finalizing the report, which can be viewed on-line at www.ces-msa.org. The school received a most favorable commendation on this project.
Congratulations to the newly elected Student Council officers: Samantha Coulter, President; Melissa Galeham, Vice President; Emily Schnupp, Secretary; and Ashley Bobak, Treasurer.

Ten Computers for the Lab will be purchased and through the efforts of Dr. Madonna Helbling, the Educational Consultant of the diocese, we have received funding to add ten more computers and software. Thanks to all those involved, especially John Major for spearheading this monumental endeavor.

APPLES FOR THE STUDENTS PROGRAM -- Bishop McDowell School is participating in the Giant Eagle Apple For the Students Program. The program will begin on Sunday, November 2, 2003 and continue until Saturday, March 20, 2004. Giant Eagle provides the opportunity for schools to get FREE computer and educational related equipment into our classrooms. It would be wonderful if every student could have hands-on access to a computer. The program is easier than ever. Instead of collecting receipts, each time your Giant Eagle Advantage Card is scanned, every purchase you make will count toward free equipment for our school. If you registered to help Bishop McDowell School anytime during the last two years, you will be automatically registered to help our school this year. If you haven’t registered yet, register now at www.gianteagle.com or call 1-800-474-4777. Have your Giant Eagle Advantage Card handy, enter our School ID#1022 and then shop with your Giant Eagle Advantage Card. We are hoping for added participation in this year’s program. Help us by spreading the word to co-workers, family and friends. Thanks for supporting Bishop McDowell School.

FUN LOVING INDIVIDUALS THAT LIKE TO PLAN PARTIES AND SOCIAL EVENTS. The Half Way to St. Patrick’s Day event was so entertaining and so much fun that we would like to continue to offer a wide variety of events that we think everyone would enjoy. We are looking for a group of individuals to plan and execute affairs like the Half Way to St. Patrick’s Day event (October 4). This group will be a part of the Development Committee to plan these fund raising events. Please consider joining the group and help provide entertaining events that will aid in our fund raising efforts. If you are interested, please call your friends and sign up as a group. The more the merrier. Call the rectory and add your name to the list.

THE BINGO IS IN NEED OF BROWN PAPER BAGS. PLEASE DROP THEM OFF AT THE RECTORY OR SCHOOL BUILDING.

SOCK DRIVE As we enter the winter months we all know how uncomfortable it is to have wet or cold feet. Many people that are homeless develop serious problems with their feet. Operation Safety Net is a ministry that delivers medical and social services to people that are homeless. They visit them in their neighborhoods each week bringing sandwiches, clean socks, fellowship and much more.
On the weekend of November 1 and 2, High School Youth will be collecting socks for Operation Safety Net. Please bring new, white socks to mass on those days to help keep others warm!
